Week 1
A - Composition & Communication
In the first week, we dive deep into the most essential design skills, Composition and Communication. Chapters include; Hierarchy, Balance & Tension, Creating Solid Compositions, Depth & Rhythm.
B - Process
In our first project, we're taking an existing design and redesigning it from the ground up to improve its composition. We're analysing what's essential to be communicated, how we can use hierarchy to draw the eye, and visual tension to create an emotion. From initial sketches to final execution, you'll see the whole process.
Week 2
A - Shappe & Form
In week 2, we're taking a closer look at how we can use Shape and Form to add clarity to your designs. Chapters include; Shape Language, Symbols, Creating Shapes, Advanced Pen-tool Techniques, Creating Clarity, Avoiding Tangents, Form + Shading, Line + Stroke
B - Process
In our second project, we're tackling a brief to design 2 scenes that use shape language, line and form to create maximum contrast and communicate 2 different experiences using the same subject matter.
Week 3
A - Colour & Texture
In the third week, we're exploring how colours can embody meaning and express an emotional tone stronger than any other design aspect. I also explore the myths and misunderstandings of colour theory. Chapters include; Colour & Contrast, Palette & Tone, and a deep dive into advanced texturing techniques.
B - Process
In our 3rd project, we're creating a variety of colour palettes that convey very specific and different tones using the same subject. Starting with research we evolve & refine our palettes to communicate exactly what we want.
Week 4
A - Art & Direction
In week 4, we take our initial steps to create our Major Project and explore more of the pre-production that goes into a solid design. Chapters include; Art & Creative Direction, Style, Visual Research, Managing Clients, and Generating Ideas
B - Process
In this project, we start analysing the brief for our dream project. I show my full process for visual research, creating a professional mood-board presentation and my real-time idea-generating method to get us prepared for our Major Project.
Week 5
A - Major Project
This week, we're putting everything we've learned into practice. We're designing 4 styleframes for our dream project. I chose the title sequence for a prestige science documentary. We build off the ideas and research from last week and design an effective sequence.
B - Major Project pt. 2
I show the full process of creating all 4 of these designs. We navigate around common problems along the way as I demonstrate how to create dynamic lighting, soft gradients and finishing effects. All in service of our initial brief and ideas to create the most exciting and professionally polished result possible.
